How do I find someone to provide services?

How do I qualify for help?
You must complete the application process, sometimes called intake, before we can tell you how we can help. This process is not the same for all programs.
You may be asked questions about your:
- Income
- Assets
- Need for help
Interest lists
Not all services may be available right away. Your name may be placed on an interest list. If that happens, you will be contacted when services are available. Click here to learn more about interest lists.
What if I don't qualify for help?
If you don't qualify to receive DADS services, there are still some resources available to you on the DADS website.
- The 28 area agencies on aging (AAAs) help Texans age 60 and older. Call them at 1-800-252-9240 to ask how they can help you.
- The DADS Long-term Care Quality Reporting System lets you find and compare long-term services and supports providers. These include nursing facilities, home health agencies, adult day care and others.
- Aging Texas Well helps individuals and communities prepare for aging in all aspects of life.
- The Texercise fitness campaign helps educate and involve older Texans and their families in physical activities and proper nutrition.
Where does DADS provide help?
With the services and supports offered by DADS, many people are able to remain in their own homes or communities.
However, if you need more assistance than can be provided in your home, DADS also can help you locate a facility, such as a nursing home, assisted living facility, state supported living center or intermediate care facility for individuals with an intellectual disability or related conditions. The size of these facilities varies from home-like settings to large facilities.
What if I need help applying for benefits?

- SNAP food benefits
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
- Children's Health Insurance Program
- Nursing home care
