The Quality Assurance and Improvement unit oversees multiple quality related projects or is involved with projects that are part of initiatives to enhance quality improvement in services and supports programs. Listed below are some of the initiatives currently underway at DADS.
Texas Falls Prevention Coalition
The Texas Falls Prevention Coalition is part of DADS Centers of Excellence strategy that recognizes that improvements in care and organizational practices developed in a research setting are transferred into routine practice only with focused effort. To promote an evidenced-based best practice related to fall prevention, funds were awarded to establish an Evidence-Based Best Practice Fall Prevention Collaborative pilot.
Centers of Excellence – Electronic Health Records
QAI contracted with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center to conduct a pilot and evaluation of the use of an electronic medical record in long-term care facilities.
Quality Monitoring Program for State Supported Living Centers, ICFs, ALFs, and home and community-based services
The Quality Monitoring Program State Supported Living Centers, ICF/IDs, ALFs, and home and community-based services promotes evidence-based best practices and provides technical assistance to increase positive outcomes for people living in state supported living centers, assisted living facilities (ALFs) and intermediate care facilities for persons with intellectual disabilities (ICF/IDs), as well as people receiving services through home and community-based services programs.
Quality Monitoring Program
The Quality Monitoring Program is intended to provide technical assistance to nursing facility providers in a collaborative relationship that would promote quality improvement rather than just compliance with state and federal standards.
Quality Management Plan (QMP)
The QMP is a working document to establish the foundation for developing a quality management strategy across the agency to align with the HCBS Quality Framework that focuses on participant-centered desired outcomes.
Nursing Facility Quality Reviews (NFQR)
The NFQR is a process to conduct statewide assessments of nursing facility residents’ quality of care, quality of life and consumer satisfaction. The annual statewide assessment informs the state about specific quality issues. The findings from this process serve as statewide performance benchmarks, as well as a record of statewide quality improvement.
Long Term Services and Support Quality Review (LTSS QR)
The LTSS QR is a statewide survey of people receiving services and supports through DADS home and community-based and institutional programs. People receiving services and supports, or their family members, provide valuable feedback through face-to-face interviews or mail surveys.
Quality Reporting System
The Quality Reporting System is a web-based resource that provides individuals with information about long-term services and supports providers in a manner that is consistent, accessible and convenient. QRS can provide information about providers through various sort features such as by city, county or ZIP code. The information that QRS provides is also available to individuals by calling DADS Consumer Rights and Services at 1-800-458-9858.
Quality Matters Website (QM-Web)
In addition to providing selected presentations from DADS provider trainings and geriatric symposia, the Quality Matters Website includes a collection of evidence-based best practice frameworks compiled from systematic clinical literature reviews. Links to other related web resources are available as well.
