Health and Human Services Commission Updates the Children Eligibility Populations for the STAR in Medicaid Rural Service Area Program
Effective immediately, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission made changes to the eligible populations for children age 20 and younger in the STAR program in the Medicaid Rural Service Area (RSA). Children age 20 and younger who do not receive SSI but are in a Department of Aging and Disabilities Services 1915(c) waiver program previously required to enroll in STAR in the Medicaid RSA are now voluntary participants. Children age 20 and younger who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) continue to choose to receive their acute care services through STAR or through traditional Medicaid in the Medicaid RSA. Individuals of any age who receive both Medicaid and Medicare (dual-eligibles) are not enrolled in the STAR program.
STAR Helpline representatives will call those individuals who now have the option to remain in STAR or choose traditional Medicaid. Letters will be mailed to those individuals that the STAR Helpline was unable to reach by phone. Disenrollment requests made prior to July 18, 2012 will take effect August 1, 2012. Disenrollment requests made July 19th and prior to August 15th will take effect for September 1, 2012. For information or to request disenrollment, individuals or their representatives may call the STAR helpline at 1-800-964-2777 (TTY 1-800-267-5008).
